Place settings

Capacity is measured in place settings. Around 9 to 10 suits one to three people, and 12 to 14 suits most families.

Freestanding or integrated

Freestanding models stand alone or sit under a worktop. Integrated models are hidden behind a cabinet door, and need a matching niche. Check the height and width the maker gives for the opening.

Width

Full size dishwashers are about 60cm wide. Slimline models are about 45cm wide and hold fewer place settings.

Energy rating

Energy labels run from A (most efficient) to G. Compare the label to compare running costs.

Installation

A dishwasher needs a water supply, a waste connection and a power socket within reach. On many large appliances you can add installation and recycling of your old appliance when you order. Each of our dishwasher pages has a "Will it fit?" checklist.
