TV buying guide
A quick guide to choosing a TV for your room. For help picking one, message us on WhatsApp.
Screen size
Measure the space first, including the stand or the wall area. A common rule of thumb is to sit about one and a half to two and a half times the screen diagonal away, so a 55 inch TV suits a viewing distance of roughly 2 to 3.5 metres.
Resolution
4K is now standard for most sizes and gives a sharper picture on larger screens. Smaller or budget sets may be Full HD.
Screen technology
LED and QLED TVs use a backlight, and Mini LED uses many small backlight zones for finer control of bright and dark areas. OLED screens light each pixel individually, which gives very deep blacks. Each has different strengths and prices, so the right choice depends on your room and budget.
Stand or wall?
Check the width of the feet against your TV unit. For a wall mount, check the mounting pattern in the product details. Brackets are usually sold separately.
Smart features and ports
Check the apps you use are supported, and that there are enough HDMI ports for a games console, soundbar or set-top box.
Getting it home
The box is larger than the TV, so measure your doorway, hallway and stairs. Each of our TV pages has a "Will it fit?" checklist.
